E3 2017 – Elite: Dangerous

The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is an annual convention on video games held in Los Angeles from 13 to 15 June 2017. Even if I will not be on-site, Remlok Industries will still provide you with a full summary and a news feed on Twitter.

We should get some details about the Update 2.4: most definitely its name as well as a taste of some features, perhaps a bit of the story? At the present time, we know that this update will be introduced in multiple parts while more content will be unlocked as the Lore progresses. Although this might suggest a smaller amount of content than usual, ObsidianAnt has been invited to the Frontier office recently and he told us that it is not the case: we should be well served with the 2.4.

He recently posted his visit of the office to the official forums, detailing the huge building Frontier owns and indicating that around hundred people are currently work on Elite: Dangerous exclusively. OA also wants to reassure the community about the content to come after 2.4, and the improvements on the main features of the game. Even if the game will no longer be in seasons, the content will continue to be developped in another format; We don’t know about the latter yet. Frontier are going to flesh out existing game mechanics and give the developers the opportunity to bring these aspects of the game inline with the original concepts as well as to perhaps add further enhancements where they can. So it seems that this is going to be big deal stuff, rather than just small tweaks. Good news is that there will still be new content added to the game along with new headline features. However Frontier are not willing to talk about what that stuff is just yet.

Elite: Dangerous will continue to grow and improve. The teams know that the game is not perfect but they are very attentive to our feedback to improve the game even more. I can’t wait to deliver you guys with the information from the E3! 🙂

  • [Exploits] Just wanted to let you know that we’ve identified accounts that have engaged in repeated and deliberate use of a game exploit which allowed people to gain a significant and unfair advantage with Engineering; we will be reviewing and taking action where we feel it is appropriate. The development team are working on a fix for this exploit and we will give you an update on this as soon as we have it. We really appreciate all reports of bugs and exploits in the game, and if possible we ask players to report any discovered as soon as possible. As mentioned earlier, reporting these bugs makes for a fairer, better balanced, and more fun Elite Dangerous. If you do not wish to report a bug / issue on our forums due to the sensitive nature of such, you’re welcome to contact us directly via our ticketing system. – Source Sticks, Support Client

Update 2.3.10

The 2.3.10 beta is now live, and available for download for everyone who owns Elite Dangerous: Horizons (Please note: as with previous Betas, this is not available on Xbox One.) As Frontier mentioned before, this beta will contain less visible changes and more ‘under the hood’ enhancements intended to improve stability and performance; for this reason they wanted to open up the beta for everyone to help test these important things.

This is a minor patch to improve the stability and performance. In the Patch Notes, you can find a list of various fixes for bugs, crashes, texts or audios. Optimisation on mission generation, improved network, enhanced Anaconda cockpit and more security for the Multicrew and the pilot. The security provided allows the pilot to lock certain features in order to avoid certain trolls, such as preventing the Gunner from firing with the weapons, Launching Shield Cells, or even preventing the release of a fighter without permission from the Helm.

Reminder: the Update 2.3.10 will officially be released on June 27, along with the release of Elite: Dangerous on PlayStation 4!

Recap of the recent official Livestream with Edward Lewis and Dav Stott:

  • Beta 2.3.10 allows us to stress test the connectivity of the game and the recent improvements, in order to push the limits and further improve the instances, physics and the networking. There are two community goals in the beta: if you participate in at least one of them, you will earn a decal as a reward!;
  • More and more players are using IPv6, which in the future will further improve the connectivity between the pilots;
  • Yes the Companion API is available in beta 2.3.10, but no more details to share at the moment;
  • Yes, the Population can change in the background simulation. For the moment nothing automatic but according to the community events and the history, they adjust the populations which influences the gains and losses of influences, the security, the production of goods,… Colonia will soon have an update on that matter;
  • Improvements will be made on the stations’ local news;
  • 7 minor factions max in a system has been chosen so that there are neither too many nor not enough factions to foster interesting activities, this number will not be decreased or increased at the moment. They will however be careful that not too many systems are blocked in this state of 7/7 factions all native from the same system, which totally prevents expansions.
  • The PlayStation 4 players will join exactly the same galactic simulation as PC, Mac and Xbox One players.
  • Speaking of the Cross-Platform and the different servers used for the game’s features, Edward said: “And, hasn’t been confirmed yet but at some point in the future I think we’re gonna do a little talking style live”. Could they bring the cross-platform between different platforms in the future? Nothing 100% confirmed but it seemed like a tease to me.
  • Developers are aware that it is difficult to expand a minor faction while knowing exactly where it will be added to another system. They read our ideas about it and would like to improve the feature, but nothing to announce yet .
  • The E3, June 13-15, should share interesting information about the future of the game. I will provide you with everything from Elite: Dangerous during the E3 information as quickly and efficiently as possible 🙂

◘ 8th of June – Authorities in Jotunheim have announced that the operation to drive the Autocracy of Jotunheim from the system has succeeded. The organisation entered the system in order to bring it under Imperial control, but the Revolutionary Jotunheim Resistance was swiftly mobilised to repel the incursion. Both factions issued calls for support, and hundreds of independent combat pilots responded, but ultimately the Revolutionary Jotunheim Resistance emerged victorious. The Autocracy of Jotunheim has now withdrawn from the system. The success of the resistance operation was due in no small part to the support of Jasmina Halsey. Scores of pilots responded to her request for commodities, which were then donated to Revolutionary Jotunheim Resistance. As the conflict drew to a close, representatives of the Revolutionary Jotunheim Resistance and the Yum Kamcabi Purple Life Industry thanked those who supported their operations.

◘ 8th of June – Over the past year, the Qa’wakana system has become a focal point for the Knights of Karma, a rapidly expanding organisation that has attracted support from across the galaxy. Now the group has announced plans to establish a new mining facility among the rings of Qa’wakana 6. A spokesman for the organisation released a statement regarding the proposal.

“Plans for the facility are underway, but we will need the support of the galactic community if the project is to succeed. We are therefore offering generous remuneration to pilots who deliver construction materials to Carpini Terminal in the Qa’wakana system.”

The spokesperson added that the organisation had placed a kill order on all ships on its wanted list.

“The construction of this new facility is sure to aggravate those who want to preserve the status quo, and we are expecting resistance. So we’re asking combat pilots to help us protect innocent traders from persecution.”
